Zanzibar

HURU was born in Zanzibar, where the days move with the ocean and clothing has to breathe with the heat.

We create relaxed linen pieces inspired by the island’s natural beauty, from coconut palms and warm sand to the quiet streets of Stone Town.

The fabric

Linen in the tropics

Linen is woven from the fibres of the flax plant, and it has been worn in hot places for thousands of years. It is known for being light, breathable and quick to dry: the qualities that matter when the air is warm and the sea is close.

It is also honest. Linen creases, softens and relaxes the more it is worn. On the island, that ease is not a flaw. It is the point.
